Chicago, New York, Washington, Las Vegas, Orange County and Niagara
Falls are where you'll find the best 3- and
4-star hotels, according to a new priceline.com®
(Nasdaq: PCLN) study of more than 100,000 satisfaction surveys submitted
by its hotel customers. The study, released today, also found that
Branson, Orlando and Monterey had the best 2-star hotels, according to
priceline.com customers.
All Priceline Hotel customers receive a post-stay survey asking them to
rate their hotel in terms of overall experience, cleanliness, staff and
location, and provide comments. Ratings appear in priceline.com's
hotels service, http://www.priceline.com/hotels/.
So far, over 650,000 Priceline Hotel customers have rated their hotels,
while more than 460,000 have written reviews. By publishing only those
ratings and comments from customers who have stayed at these hotels,
priceline.com believes that it enhances the value of the reviews.
Priceline.com's practice contrasts with other
sites that don't check, or randomly check to
ensure that reviews are coming from bona fide hotel customers.
For this hotel satisfaction study, priceline.com calculated the average
customer satisfaction ratings for 4-star, 3-star and 2-star hotels in
its most popular travel destinations. Satisfaction ratings are on a
scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest score.
Here are the cities receiving the highest satisfaction scores for each
star level:
Favorite Cities for 4-Star Hotels
Satisfaction Score City/Area
8.93 CHICAGO
8.77 NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario
8.60 NEW YORK CITY
8.23 LAS VEGAS
Favorite Cities for 3-Star Hotels
Satisfaction Score City/Area
8.64 CHICAGO
8.59 NEW YORK CITY
8.47 ORANGE COUNTY
8.37 WASHINGTON, DC
Priceline.com also looked at satisfaction scores for 2-star hotels and
found that the highest scores went to BRANSON, Missouri (8.13), followed
by ORLANDO (7.65) and MONTEREY (7.33).
All of the satisfaction scores used in today's
study were supplied by customers who made bookings through priceline.com's
Published Price hotel service, where they pick the exact hotel they want
after viewing detailed descriptions, photos, reviews and prices. For
comparison purposes, priceline.com also looked at satisfaction scores
for 3- and 4-star hotels in the cities most popular among customers
using priceline.com's Name Your Own Price®
hotel service. Customers using the Name Your Own Price®
service pick the star level, neighborhood, dates and price they want to
pay, but don't know which specific hotel they'll
be staying in until after the transaction is complete. By being flexible
with their hotel, customers can save up to 50% or more over the
published prices found on other Internet hotel reservation sites.*
After determining its Name Your Own Price®
customers' top 4 cities, priceline.com found
that, for 4-star hotels, customers who used priceline.com's
Name Your Own Price® service were
slightly more satisfied with their purchase, on average, than those who
chose their specific hotel. For 3-star hotels, average satisfaction
scores were the same for Name Your Own Price®
customers and for those who chose their specific hotel.
?We believe that the high satisfaction with
the hotels participating in our Name Your Own Price®
service is due to several factors,? said Tim
Gordon, priceline.com's Senior Vice
President, Hotels. ?It is a recognition of
the quality of the hotels in our program and the stringent star rating
system that priceline.com has in place. It also shows how thrilled
customers are with the tremendous savings they realize by using
priceline.com's Name Your Own Price®
hotel service.?
Priceline.com maintains its own proprietary star rating system that
assigns a hotel a rating from 1 to 5 stars depending on the brand,
property, amenities and services. Customers can see photos,
descriptions, maps and amenities for each hotel. In addition, for many
hotels, priceline.com offers professional hotel reviews from the Zagat
Survey that include numerical ratings for a hotel's
rooms, service, dining and facilities, along with a commentary on the
property. Zagat also powers Priceline's
Destination Guides, featuring commentary and reviews of restaurants,
museums, nightclubs, sports venues, sightseeing spots, historical
landmarks and more.
Priceline.com offers a broad range of hotels and booking options.
Customers who want to book a particular hotel can use priceline.com's
published-price hotel service that features an easy to search grid with
descriptions, ratings and rankings, amenities, pictures, maps and prices
for all the available hotels in a given destination.
More flexible customers can opt for priceline.com's
Name Your Own Price® hotel service,
where they pick the destination and neighborhood, desired star level,
dates and the price they want to pay. Priceline.com then works to find a
hotel willing to sell a room at the customer's
desired price. Customers using priceline.com's
Name Your Own Price® hotel service can
save up to 50% compared to the published prices found on other major
online hotel reservation services.*
* Over the last 12 months, a substantial percentage of accepted offers
have resulted in savings of up to 50% in comparison to the lowest
published rates on other leading online travel sites for the same
itinerary. Priceline.com's Name Your Own
Price® reservation system is different
from other online travel sites. With priceline.com's
Name Your Own Price® reservation
system, the exact hotel is shown only after purchase. There is no
guarantee that hotels, dates or prices will be available and savings are
not guaranteed. Actual prices and availability are always subject to
change.
