Update
on the situation following the Explosion at the Zodiac Aerospace Advanced Composite and Engineered Materials facility, located in Newport, WA, USA
July 31, 2015 - Some two weeks after the explosion which occurred on July 14 evening in the Zodiac Aerospace Advanced Composite and Engineered Materials facility in Newport, WA, USA, the last hospitalized employee was released from hospital. The two of our colleagues who were hospitalized are are currently recovering.
Regarding the Newport facility, the return to operations is on schedule. Last week, the building, which suffered significant damage, was secured in order to be cleaned and to remove and secure raw material and finished goods. This week, the production equipment were set up in a secured area of the facility to restart production of raw materials and adhesives next week. The multi-platen panel press, manufacturing composite panels, is scheduled to restart the week after. Other functions, which were more seriously damaged in the explosion, will need more time to be resumed on site, in particular the pre-preg[1]:

Therefore, in the meantime, pre-preg materials will be supplied by an alternate site, producing our products and part numbers under the guidance of the Newport team. We have also increased our supply of equivalent pre-preg materials that can be used in multiple programs as well. These deliveries start from next week.
All in all, the restart of some operations, the use of a contract site to support our manufacturing, and increased supply from our other vendors will help limit the impact on the production of the Zodiac Aerospace sites depending on the supplies of the Newport facility.
The investigation to determine the cause of the explosion is on-going to establish the circumstances and determine root cause. Zodiac Aerospace has set up an internal enquiry as well as is fully cooperating with local and federal authorities.
Further update will follow.
