Jame B. Quincey est titulaire d'un bachelor et d’un diplôme d’ingénieur en génie électronique de l'Université de Liverpool. Après ses études, il devient partenaire en conseil et en stratégie auprès du groupe Kalchas, une filiale de Bain & Company et McKinsey.
James B. Quincey rejoint ensuite le groupe Coca-Cola à Atlanta en 1996 en tant que directeur de la stratégie d'apprentissage du groupe Amérique latine. Il a occupé divers postes opérationnels de responsabilité accrue en Amérique latine, ce qui a conduit à sa nomination à la présidence de la Division Sud-latine en 2003.
Durant son séjour en Amérique du Sud, James B. Quincey a joué un rôle déterminant dans le développement et la mise en œuvre de la marque (stratégies de pack, de prix et de canaux, qui ont maintenant été reproduites sous diverses formes dans le système général du groupe).
De 2005 à 2008, James B. Quincey est président de la division mexicaine. Au cours de son mandat, il a accru la part de marché de la marque Coca-Cola. Il a également élargi son portefeuille avec la relance de Coca-Cola Zero et l'acquisition de Jugos de Valle, l'une des marques de la société vendue aujourd'hui dans 16 pays.
De 2008 à 2012, il devient président du pôle Europe du nord et de l’ouest. Parmi les nombreuses réalisations de James B. Quincey au cours de cette période, il a notamment dirigé l'acquisition du jus Innocent en 2009, l'une des marques de la société générant le plus gros chiffre d’affaire.
De 2013 à 2015, il est nommé président du groupe européen de la compagnie, composé de 38 pays. Sous la direction de James B. Quincey, le groupe Europe, le groupe d’exploitation le plus rentable du groupe, a stratégiquement élargi son portefeuille de marques et amélioré son fonctionnement à l’échelle géographique. Ces actions ont permis de générer une croissance solide des produits de base et d’élargir la part de marché de la société. James B. Quincey a également joué un rôle déterminant dans la fusion des sociétés Coca-Cola Enterprises, Coca-Cola Iberian Partners et Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetranke AG pour former Coca-Cola European Partners Plc., qui est désormais le plus grand distributeur indépendant de Coca-Cola au monde.
Le 1er mai 2017, il devient président directeur général du groupe Coca-Cola. A cette date, il a dirigé toutes les unités opérationnelles de la société à travers le monde en tant que président et chef de l’exploitation.
