For the past decade, Mr. Yoder has been advocating, researching, investing in, and monitoring alternative investments.
From 1994 until early 2004, he directed mid-sized endowments—most recently at Smith College and previously at Vassar College.
At both institutions, Mr. Yoder wrote new investment policies and implemented modern portfolios with large allocations to alternative investments.
During his tenure, their endowments earned returns above both the median endowment and the colleges' own composite benchmarks.
From 1986 through 1993, he was employed by SEI Corporation, primarily in their pension consulting division (now CRA RogersCasey).
In July 2004, the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) published his first book, entitled Endowment Management: A Practical Guide.
He has also written numerous articles for, and been quoted in, publications such as Pensions & Investments, Fortune, Business Officer, Plan Sponsor, Trusteeship, and Global Investment.Mr. Yoder was chosen as the inaugural Nonprofit Investment Officer of the Year by Foundation & Endowment Money Management in June 2002.
He was also profiled by Pensions & Investments in October 1998 as one of "25 to Watch": investment professionals among "the powers-to-be in the next 25 years." He serves on the investment committees of Albright College and the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.
Mr. Yoder holds an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. from Albright College.
He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1992.
