Andrew R Jassy est né le 13 janvier 1968. C’est un homme d’affaires américain qui a largement contribué à la croissance économique du groupe Amazon dans lequel il travaille depuis 1997. D’abord directeur du marketing, en 2003, il a fondé Amazon Web Services (AWS), avec une équipe de 57 personnes. C’est dans cette division qu’il a fait ses armes dans la société multinationale, en contribuant au développement d’AWS qui est spécialisé dans les services de cloud computing, et dont il a réussi à faire l’une des divisions les plus lucratives du groupe américain. Fort de la conjoncture sanitaire de 2020, ce service de cloud computing constitue un dixième des revenus du géant américain. En avril 2016 Jassy avait déjà été promu, passant de vice-président senior à PDG d'AWS. Grâce à ses bons résultats opérationnels Andrew Jassy est apparu comme le successeur naturel de Jeff Bezos. Il deviendra PDG du groupe Amazon au troisième trimestre 2021.
Il est le fils de Margery et Everett L. Jassy, de Scarsdale à New York. Son père a été associé principal du cabinet d’avocats Dewey Ballantine à New York, et président du comité de gestion du cabinet Jassy. Jeune, il a grandi à Scarsdale et a fréquenté le lycée de la ville. Puis il a obtenu un MBA de la prestigieuse Harvard Business school dont il a d’ailleurs été le directeur de la publicité du journal étudiant The Harvard Crimson. En 1997, la même année que son entrée chez Amazon, il a épousé Elana Rochelle Caplan, créatrice de mode pour Eddie Bauer.
