He started his career at Drexel Burnham in 1983 and moved to Bear Stearns in 1990 as Managing Director of Institutional Fixed Income on the West Coast.
In 2005, he co-founded Cedar Ridge Partners, which managed up to $1.0 billion in assets.
Shelton Capital Management bought Cedar Ridge in 2019, and Mr. Benstead became Shelton's Lead Portfolio Manager, directing a team of four portfolio managers and two analysts that invested mutual funds, private funds, and separate accounts across the municipal bond, corporate bond, preferred stock, and common stock markets.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis in 1981, and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business in 1983.
