Prior to joining Carnegie Corporation in 2008, Dr. Berne worked as a consultant for the Annie E.
Casey Foundation, where she researched and wrote a guide to disaster preparedness for child welfare agencies.
Dr. Berne earned her Ph.D.
in English from Yale University in 2007.
She has presented her research on regionalism, modernism and the short story cycle at numerous academic conferences and published pieces on American fiction and Irish drama.
While at Yale, she taught classes that include the Introduction to the Study of American Literature and The American Short Story, an original course selected for the university's College Seminar Program.
