Profil
Prior to joining Century in 2004, Mr. Smith held the positions of President and CEO of Converium Reinsurance (North America) Inc. (2001–2003), Zurich Reinsurance (North America) Inc. (1997–2001), and Zurich Reinsurance Centre, Inc. (1995–1997).
Prior to joining Zurich, Mr. Smith launched the Market Information Department and Finite Risk brokerage unit of Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc., serving on that company's Board of Directors.
He has also served on the Board of Directors of ZRC from 1993 until 1997 and of the three Converium operating companies, Converium (Zurich), Converium (Germany) and Converium (North America).
Previously, he was responsible for the Property-Casualty Division of A.M.
Best Company and was Editor of Best's Insurance Reports and Best's Key Rating Guide.
Mr. Smith is a Trustee Emeritus for The Children's Storefront, a private, non-profit tuition free school in Harlem, NY.
Mr. Smith earned a BA degree from U.S.
International University in San Diego, CA and attended Ohio State University and the U.S.
Naval Flight School.
