Ed's interest in Dolby dates back to his days as a college student in Chicago, where he recorded local bands and dreamed of one day owning a Dolby Noise Reduction unit.
Upon joining Dolby in 1978, Ed held positions from Licensing Engineer to General Manager of Licensing Engineering.
During his early tenure at the company, Ed played a key role in the successful resolution of a patent dispute in Germany in 1980, which paved the way for the acceptance of Dolby Noise Reduction in that country.
In his current position, Ed directs the company's worldwide technology and trademark licensing activities, and is responsible for spearheading the company's efforts to extend Dolby technologies into the vast world of consumer electronics.
Among his proudest accomplishments is his role in developing Dolby's licensing department as well as the Dolby Digital Licensing Program.
Prior to joining Dolby, Ed held several engineering positions with National Semiconductor.
He received his BS degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1975, and has completed advanced coursework at Stanford University, the Franklin Pierce Law Center, and the Licensing Institute.
He is a member of the Licensing Executive Society, the Audio Engineering Society (AES), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
