Patrick Sayer est un homme d'affaires, spécialisé notamment dans le capital-investissement. Il est diplômé de Polytechnique, de l'École des Mines de Paris (option Écologie), ainsi que de la SFAF.
Il a débuté sa carrière en 1982 au sein de la société de gestion Lazard Frère, passant notamment par un poste d'Associé-Gérant en France et de Managing Director à New York. Vingt ans plus tard, il a été nommé à la tête d'Eurazeo, un poste qu'il a exercé de 2002 à 2018. Son passage dans la société aura été marqué par une forte croissance et l'intégration des critères RSE aux critères d'investissement de l'entreprise. Il préside depuis la société d'investissement Augusta. Il est cependant toujours membre du conseil de surveillance d'Eurazeo.
Patrick Sayer exerce également des mandats dans de nombreuses entreprises, telles que Europcar, Ipulse, TechData, Valeo… Il est par ailleurs juge au tribunal de commerce de Paris et fondateur du Club des Juristes et juge consulaire au tribunal de commerce de Paris. Il enseigne la finance à l'université Paris-Dauphine et a présidé l'AFIC (France Invest) en 2006. Enfin, M. Sayer fait partie des Officiers de la Légion d'Honneur
