Vice-Président du conseil d'administration de Gemplus International, ancien Président du directoire de Ryanair Holdings, David Bonderman est également cofondateur du fonds d'investissement Texas Pacific Group (TPG) et de sa filiale asiatique Newbridge Capital.
A la tête de ce conglomérat, actif aux États-Unis, au Canada , en Europe et en Asie, David Bonderman gère un portefeuille constitué de nombreuses sociétés, parmi lesquelles on peut citer : J. Crew, Burger King, Gemplus International SA, Seagate Technology, ...
Diplômé de l'Université de Washington en 1963 et de Harvard en 1966, David Bonderman travaille de 1967 à 1968 comme professeur adjoint à l'Université de Tulane Law School puis comme assistant du Procureur Général à Washington.
Juriste, il devient partenaire-associé dans le cabinet d'avocats Arnold & Porter basé à Washington, DC. Il est en charge de tout ce qui concerne le droit des sociétés, les valeurs mobilières, la faillite et les litiges antitrust. En 1983, il rejoint Keystone, INC, anciennement RMBG (Robert M. Bass Group) dont il est nommé CEO.
En 1992, Bonderman crée Texas Pacific Group avec deux associés : James Coulter et William S. Price. Il annonce rapidement la couleur en investissant dans la compagnie aérienne Continental Airlines. En 1998, la firme affiche déjà un rendement de 55%.
A la fin des années quatre-vingt-dix, Bonderman multiplie les fonds de private equity. Il parvient ainsi à entrer au capital des entreprises les plus en vue, telles que AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Ducati Moto ou encore Del Monte Foods.
La réputation de TPG acquise, toutes les portes s'ouvrent pour Bonderman. Ainsi, en novembre 2003, TPG affiche son intérêt pour le milieu du cinéma en investissant massivement dans la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Deux ans plus tard, TPG participe au rachat de SunGard, la multinationale basée en Pennsylvanie, ainsi que dans Silver Lake Partners, Bain Capital, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Providence Equity Partners, et le groupe Blackstone.
En 2006, Bonderman lance son 5ème fonds de private equity. Un an plus tard, l'entreprise change officiellement de nom et devient TPG Capital. Depuis décembre 2003, il est président de Ryanair Holding et de Ryanair Limited.
En 2011, David Bonderman était à la 595ème place dans le classement Forbes. Sa fortune est estimée à 2 milliards de dollars.
