Mr. Dean joined the family firm (Dean Investment Associates) in 1970.
He managed the firm’s portfolios, developed the company’s accounting system for securities and served as a trader.
By the end of the decade, Mr. Dean was named vice president and shifted his focus to client relations, marketing and management.
He was named executive vice president in 1984 and became president and chief operating officer in 1991.
During that period, he was also a senior institutional portfolio manager and served on the Central Investment Committee.
Under his management, the firm enjoyed its most significant growth, increasing assets to $7 billion and expanding professional and support staff to handle the increasing volume of business.
Between 1994 and 2001, Mr. Dean and his wife continued the development of Willow Run Dairy, one of the largest grade A goat dairies in the country, which they established in 1983.
In 1998, Mr. Dean also founded Caprine Estates, the dairy’s consumer retail sales and distribution division.
He is an active member of the Dayton community, having served on numerous boards including the American Red Cross and the Dayton YMCA.
