Mr. Gary T.
Smart, CFA MBA, is a Partner at Freestone Capital Management LLC.
He oversees our multi-strategy and external traditional investment solutions.
He is also responsible for research, selection and monitoring of traditional investments external managers and mutual funds.
Mr. Smart began his investment career in 1989 as a research analyst and portfolio manager at First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo).
There he helped manage the bank’s trust and mutual funds and provided management services to high net worth clients.
He later joined Salomon Smith Barney in 1997 to assist Gary Furukawa in managing his rapidly growing investment management business, and he joined again in 1999 as a co-founder of Freestone.
He earned an MBA from the University of Washington and a BA in Economics from Brigham Young University.
He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
