Beacon Investment Co.
Beacon Investment Co. Investment ManagersFinance Beacon's equity selection process reflects a belief that investing in large companies that have a dominant position within a growing industry is an effective method to meet their clients' investment objectives. They analyze each common stock that passes their screening process for its earnings growth prospects in relation to the p/e ratio they place on expected earnings. The firm's method of stock selection begins with the following criteria: the company must be domiciled in the US and must be listed on the NYSE (or must be eligible and currently an applicant for listing). Dividends must have been paid in at least nine of the last 10 years (except financial companies). In general, the great majority of the assets in Beacon's portfolios meet the strict definition of the previous sets of criteria. The remaining may fall just outside their screening parameters. However, all of the stocks they buy incorporate what they think are the best combination of high quality, substantial earnings growth and reasonable or fair value. As part of the asset allocation decision, Beacon employs fixed-income securities to diminish overall portfolio volatility and augment current income. Their focus is on corporate bonds that have an intermediate-term maturity and are non-callable. They have found intermediate-term bonds, with an average maturity of five to ten years, to offer the most compelling risk/return relationship for their clients' portfolios. They buy non-callable bonds to avoid the issuer redeeming the bond prior to its maturity date. Beacon selects investment-grade bonds from an array of industries to optimize opportunity while diversifying portfolio risk. In addition, they select quality, liquid issues. That increases their ability to sell bonds easily and quickly if they need to alter the portfolio mix. As an adjunct to wealth management and where appropriate, Beacon includes high-yield bonds in client portfolios. They focus on high-yield bonds with ratings that border the investment grade universe. Within the universe of high-yield bonds, the firm searches out companies with stable or improving cash flow. | Head-Equity Investments | 31/12/2007 |
