Rakesh Kapoor est aujourd’hui Président Directeur Général de la multinationale britannique Reckitt Benckiser ; l’un des leaders mondiaux de la production de produits pour la santé, l’hygiène et la maison. Il a passé la majeure partie de sa carrière (30 ans) au sein de ce groupe. Il y est en effet entré en 1987, alors que l’entreprise, beaucoup plus modeste s’appelait Reckitt & Colman. Il y a exercé différentes fonctions, tout d’abord en Inde, comme par exemple directeur régional des ventes pour l’Inde du Nord, puis, directeur général de la région Sud. Ensuite, il est devenu directeur marketing régional pour la région Asie du Sud. En 1999, il est promu Directeur Monde de la "lutte antiparasitaire". C’est cette même année que Reckitt & Colman fusionne avec Benckiser pour donner naissance au premier groupe mondial des produits de nettoyage ménagers (hors lessives).
Rakesh Kapoor se voit alors confier la fonction de premier vice-président pour le marché "soins à domicile". En 2001 il est promu vice-président directeur Europe du Nord. En juillet 2006, ses fonctions se multiplient et il est sur tous les fronts : il cumule en effet les rôles de : vice-président, responsable de la gestion globale des catégories, responsable de la recherche et du développement, mais aussi responsable des médias, responsable des études de marché… Et responsable des alliances stratégiques !

Il prend les commandes complètes en septembre 2011 et contribue alors depuis à faire du groupe britannique le géant de la santé grand public qu’il est aujourd’hui, avec des marques de notoriété mondiale comme Durex, Strepsils, Nurofen (pour la santé) ou Harpic et Calgon (pour l'hygiène domestique). Il a aussi permis au groupe de se redresser, en 2018, après deux années de mauvais résultats provoqués par différents événements mondiaux : un scandale sanitaire en Corée du Sud, une attaque informatique et un échec retentissant lors d’un lancement de produit.
En début d’année 2019, Reckitt Benckiser a annoncé le départ imminent de Rakesh Kapoor et a donc officialisé le processus de désignation de son successeur, en étudiant aussi bien des candidatures internes que des candidatures externes. Rakesh Kapoor pourra alors peut-être prendre le temps de se consacrer à ses hobbies : le bridge et le cricket…
