Deuxième plus grosse fortune d'Italie selon Forbes, Leonardo Del Vecchio est le Président d’EssilorLuxottica depuis 2017, après avoir fondé et dirigé le groupe Luxottica depuis 1961.

L’italien naît à Milan le 22 mai 1935. Orphelin d’un père qui était vendeur de fruits et légumes, Leonardo Del Vecchio est contraint dès l'âge de 15 ans de trouver un travail pour subvenir aux besoins de sa famille. Pendant quelques années, il travaille chez un fabricant d'outils et à 19 ans, il commence des études de dessin industriel en cours du soir tout en continuant à travailler le jour.

Passionné par les montures de lunettes, il s'installe en 1958 à Agordo dans la province de Belluno, en Vénétie. C'est dans cette vallée, qui concentre tous les acteurs de la fabrication des lunettes de la conception à la commercialisation, qu'il crée une société de fabrication de pièces détachées pour les lunettes : Luxottica.

En 1967, Del Vecchio décide de se lancer dans l'assemblage des lunettes, un pari audacieux puisque la concurrence fait rage. En 1971, Luxottica prend un virage décisif en cessant de fabriquer pour les autres. Del Vecchio veut développer sa propre gamme de lunettes.
Pendant les années qui ont suivi, Del Vecchio s'est appuyé sur la recherche afin de devenir leader dans le domaine. Il a en outre conçu une véritable stratégie de distribution. Une première acquisition de la société italienne Scarronne en 1974 lui permet de mettre en place un réseau de vente performant.
En 1981, avec l'ouverture d'une filiale en Allemagne, la stratégie de développement d'un réseau de distribution à l'international est engagée. Il part la même année à l’assaut du marché américain.

En 1988, Luxottica Group part à la conquête de la haute couture. Un premier partenariat avec Giorgio Armani ouvre la voie à d'autres accords avec l'industrie du luxe. La croissance interne étant consolidée, Del Vecchio s'attelle à la croissance externe avec l'acquisition de marques prestigieuses comme Persol, Ferragamo, Chanel, Versace, Prada, Vogue, DKNY, D&G, Ray-Ban, ou encore Oakley dans le secteur du sport.
Aujourd’hui, ce groupe emploie des dizaines de milliers de personnes à travers le monde et pèse son pesant d’or.

Si Del Vecchio est parti de rien, bon nombre de diplômes honorifiques lui ont été remis en Italie pour saluer sa réussite. Depuis 2016, outre une vie mouvementée où il est réputé changer autant de fois de femmes que de managers, il prend les rênes de son groupe et est nommé PDG de Luxottica.
La fusion du groupe avec Essilor, leader mondial dans le secteur des verres ophtalmiques, consacre l’ascension irrésistible de son entreprise de l’optique.

Leonardo Garnica Eljaiek occupe le poste de vice-président chargé des investissements au sein de Grupo Energia Bogot SA ESP. Il est également membre du conseil d'administration de Promigas SA ESP. Dans sa carrière antérieure, il était directeur des investissements et de la structure financière chez Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA (Panam). Il a obtenu un diplôme d'études supérieures de l'Universidad de Los Andes.

Actuellement, Leonardo Eleutrio Moreno occupe le poste de Chief Commercial Officer & Senior VP-Investments chez The AES Corp. M.
