Il a accordé une entrevue au magazine Institutional Investor, a fait la Une du magazine Bloomberg et a été interviewé par le New York Times. En mai 2008, il a publiquement critiqué les pratiques de Wall Street et a accusé les traders d'être trop jeunes et de manquer de maturité et de sagesse.

En dehors du monde des affaires, le pionnier des fonds de couverture se consacre au mécénat. Il aurait payé un prix record (60,5 millions de dollars) pour un tableau de Paul Cézanne. Il a également fait don de 19 millions de dollars à l'Art Institute de Chicago, dont il est administrateur.
