Prior to joining Smith Group in 2005, Dr. Milner was a director at Ranger Advisors, a Dallas hedge-fund manager where he was responsible for risk management and due diligence for hedge-fund investments.
From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Milner led a financial services consulting team at IBM.
He used proprietary research to build stock selection systems, portfolio management systems and risk management platforms.
From 1996 to 1998, Dr. Milner was a proprietary trader at Coastal Securities in Dallas, and from 1994 to 1996, he was a quantitative portfolio manager at TIAA-CREF in New York.
He held various physics research positions at the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1985 to 1994.
Dr. Milner received a Ph.D.
in physics and a bachelor of science degree in physics from the University of Texas at Austin.
He serves on the endowment investment committee of the American Physical Society.
