Né le 12 juillet 1972 à Chennai, en Inde, Sundar Pichai est le PDG de Google depuis 2015 et d'Alphabet depuis le 3 Décembre 2019. Sa mère était sténographe et son père ingénieur électricien chez General Electric, il dirigeait aussi une usine de fabrication de composants électriques.

Sundar Pichai a été diplômé en 1993 à l'Institut indien de technologie de Kharagpur, où il a étudié la métallurgie et l'ingénierie des matériaux. Il s'est ensuite orienté vers l'Université de Stanford et a obtenu un master en ingénierie des matériaux, suivi d'un MBA à la Wharton School de l'université de Pennsylvannie.

Par la suite, Sundar Pichai a travaillé pour le constructeur de semi-conducteurs Applied Materials, ainsi qu'en tant que consultant pour McKinsey et c'est en 2004 qu'il a rejoint Google, en tant que vice-président pour le management de produits tels qu' iGoogle, Google Toolbar, Google Desktop Search ou Google Gadgets.
En 2011, il a été nommé Vice-Président de Chrome et de G Suite (Drive, Gmail...) puis en Mars 2013, nommé à la direction d'Android. Il avait été proposé comme candidat au poste de PDG de Microsoft en 2014, un poste qui a finalement été attribué à Satya Nadella.

Son ascension fulgurante s'est alors soldée par l'accession au poste de PDG de Google, le 10 août 2015 à la suite de la restructuration de l'entreprise et la création de la nouvelle société Alphabet, la nouvelle société holding de la famille Google.
