The concession holder of Faro airport, VINCI Airports, has launched the construction of a solar power plant, set to go into operation in 2022.

With a capacity of 3 MWp, the facility will satisfy 30% of the platform's electricity needs, enabling annual savings of over 1,500 tonnes of CO2. It will be financed, developed, built and operated by VINCI Airports through its photovoltaics subsidiary, SunMind, which was founded by an employee.
After partnerships were established with local environmental organisations, such as the Centre of Marine Sciences at the University of Algarve in Portugal, this marks a new step in VINCI Airports' environmental action plan - not only for the Algarve region, but for the 45 airports under concession all over the world.
